Komilla Sutton zu Kundalini: "Rahu and Ketu indicate the kundalini, which is derived from the Sanskrit word kundal meaning a coil of a rope similar to a snake lying coiled while resting. Kundalini also means coiling, spiralling and winding. It is a form of Durga or Shakti the female power and is the hidden power that lies dormant within us. As the kundalini awakens it starts to rise upwards against the gravitational pull in the same way that a snake spirals out of its coil. While the kundalini is dormant we remain unaware of our extra potential, the sleeping fire we are harbouring. The search for self-knowledge eventually brings us to a higher level of awareness, beyond the normal state of human consciousness, and the kundalini provides the link. As its energy changes from static to dynamic, a whole new inner world is opened to us. It(?) one of hidden power, individual consciousness and links to past, present and future lives. The force of the dynamic kundalini rises through the psychic centers or the chakras of the body towards the sahasara(?) or crown chakra. Here it is sourrounded by a great light of consciousness that ends the separation of human from spiritual. When the kundalini is fully awakened, the soul becomes one with eternal consciousness.
The image of the kundalini rising against gravity is shown by the retrograde motion of Rahu Ketu. The other planets mostly travel forward but Rahu Ketu always move backward against the trends and the forces of life. Rahu Ketu, when representing the static kundalini, indicate the power within us that can change the course of our destiny, but his power is untapped until awakened." Komilla Sutton zur Mondknotenachse: "The importance of the Nodes in Vedic Astrology
Rahu and Ketu are the key to unlocking the relationship of the soul with its past life. They have been given the status of planets to emphasise their significance and are known as chayya grahas (shadow planets). They have no substance and are physically non-existent as they are points in the ecliptic, yet their influence is full of potency and spiritual significance. The nodes represent polarities with the mission to churn up our lives in order to bring out the hidden potential and wisdom that has been gathered from the karma of previous lives. In keeping with their shadowy nature they work on a psychological level, but in both the mundane world and in spiritual life. Their function in the material realm urges us to redirect our desires: what is darkness to a person enmeshed to a person enmeshed in materialistic ambition can be powerful spiritual energy for those on the path of moksha and enlightenment. "Rahu: Rahu and Ketu together form the karmic axis but they have distinct individual features. When studying your chart, you need to study Rahu and Ketu separately and then the axis.
Rahu is the projection of past life issues onto todays landscape. Rahu becomes obsessed with externalising past life wishes through present experiences, and in keeping with its shadowy nature the projection is the mind. Many interpretations show only the negative side of Rahu like the fiery and destructive force of the arising kundalini, Rahu on its own, without due knowledge of its power, is usually perceived as similarly dangerous, but this is seeing just half the picture. Rahu energy, like kundalini, needs to be trained and disciplined. Once this is achieved it has the capacity to defy both gravity and convention, and make immense changes to the individual psyche. While you are studying Rahu, always remember its negativity as well as its great occult power and its supreme ability to give you real results in life both materially and spiritually."

"Ketu: Ketu is the tail of the celestial snake. The tail carries all past life karmas and potentials. It has no head, therefore it feels with the heart and reacts instinctively, emotionally and intuitively rather than with the intellectual analysis of conscious thought. Ketus role in a birth chart is to look beyond the restriction of the mind and to make the fusion between the consciousness and the subconsciousness. It opens your world to all sorts of mysteries, and as you focus on your spiritual quest it opens the doors to the vast secret of knowledge you carry within yourself."
