At the foot of the hill of Lavaux, the old castle of the monks of Cluny is a fortified cellar and the canons of Langres were for a long time in charge of watching over the vines. A first mention of the wine appears in 640, which goes to show how this nectar is deeply rooted in history. Created in September 1936, the appellation involves fabulous grand crus like Chambertin or Clos de Bèze. The vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin produce only red wines made from pinot noir.

Castle of Clos de Vougeot
As early as the 12th century, the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux planted vineyards on the hillsides. The castle was completed in the 16th century by a main building in the purest Renaissance style. Located in the heart of the Route des Grands Crus, the Château de Clos de Vougeot is open all year and welcomes lovers of history, architecture and wine. The receptions given in this unique setting are renowned throughout the world. If the Château de Clos de Vougeot no longer produces wine, it remains the symbol of nearly a millennium of history in Burgundy. This exceptional historical monument is the home of the Fraternity of Knights of the Wine-Tasting Cup.
