Um 1500 vor Christus war die englische Sprache noch nicht existent.

Warum wurde der Text nun nur ins Englische übersetzt und nicht auch ins Deutsche?

diese Glyphe ist mit der Göttin Maat verbunden. Sie war die Göttin der Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit, so wog sie dann vor dem Totengericht das Herz eines Verstorbenen mit ihrer Straußenfeder. Von dieser Prüfung der Schuldfrage hing dann ab, ob die Seele „Ka“ mit ihrem Körper für das ewige Leben im Jenseits (Duat) wieder vereint wurde.

Hatte das Herz diese Prüfung nicht bestand, wurde es einem Untier zum Fraß vorgeworfen. Damit war dann auch der endgültige Tod verbunden. Ohne den Körper war also ein Weiterleben im Jenseits nicht möglich.

Maat wurde deshalb meist mit dieser Straußenfeder im Haar dargestellt, wie man das auch bei dieser Glyphe deutlich erkennen kann.

„Nu“ war ein Beamter, dem dieses Papyrus mit dem Totenbuch gehörte. „Nu“ stand im Dienste des Schatzmeisters Sobekhotep. Das Papyrus zählt die Tugenden auf, die über das Weiterleben in der Duat bestimmen sollten. Deshalb taucht dort auch die Glyphe der Maat auf.

Außer des Alters und der Vollständigkeit des Textes wegen, muss man das jedoch nicht unbedingt gelesen haben. Für jeden, der ein gutes Gewissen in sich trägt, dürften diese Tugenden selbstverständlich sein. Es wird dort halt alles bis ins Detail aufgezählt, was man besser lassen sollte.
